The horror tale's leading lady, Jennifer Lawrence, is a bona-fide movie star thanks to her performance as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, but the trailer for House at the End of the Street doesn't rely upon her new ubiquity to sell the movie. Instead, it opens with fierce intensity then doesn't relent for the ensuing two minutes, dropping lots of cool flashback effects and escalating the true sense of horror right up until the very end.
It also effectively communicates the story, which finds Lawrence as Elissa moving into a new town with her single mother, played by Elisabeth Shue. All seems to be going well, even as they discover that the neighboring home was the site of a brutal double murder and Elissa strikes up a friendship with the massacre's survivor, played by Max Thieriot. Of course, things quickly spiral out of control.
The film marks the feature debut of director Mark Tonderai, and you can read IAR's exclusive interview with the talented young director by clicking right here.
Tonderai is directing from a screenplay written by David Loucka, with a story credited to action auteur Jonathan Mostow, helmer of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and U-571.
House at the End of the Street opens in theaters nationwide on September 21st.
Full Disclosure: House at the End of the Street was produced by Relativity Media, iamROGUE's parent company.
