Powerhouse cast joins 'Tinker, Tailor'

Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Michael Fassbender have all signed on to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, an espionage thriller from Working Title films and Studio Canal. Talk about a prestigious cast - that's half a Harry Potter movie right there! Swedish director Tomas Alfredson (Let The Right One In) will be helming the picture, which is based on a 1974 novel by John Le Carre. Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) wrote the adaptation.

Here's the synopsis for the book, which also spawned a 70s UK series starring Alec Guinness:

No doubt remains, a mole has infiltrated the Circus, code name for the British Secret Intelligence Service. It can be only one of four men operating at the very highest level. Sidelined agent George Smiley is covertly tapped to root out the mole, a task that requires a painstaking dig through the double-blind world of Cold War era espionage and his own past.

It hasn't been revealed yet who will be playing the film's hero, George Smiley, who was the protagonist in a half-dozen Le Carre novels.

This is the second big splash Working Title has made today, the first being the news that they're preparing a live-action Little Mermaid movie.
