Justin Bieber's 3D biopic has found a director in John Chu, the man behind Step Up 2 and Step Up 3D. Filming has already begun on the concert film/coming-of-age story, which was originally set up with An Inconvenient Truth director Davis Guggenheim, who dropped out a day after the announcement was made to supposedly focus on promoting his documentary Waiting For Superman. (Us conspiracy theorists have other theories... Hey, it's what we do.)

Bieber is currently on a major tour and is now performing in Nashville, where coverage for the movie is underway; the teenage sensation will ultimately end up at Madison Square Garden on August 31st, which should provide plenty of wild footage of girls screaming and... whatever else happens at a Justin Bieber concert..

This is what Chu had to say about the hiring: "When I was approached about doing Justin's film, I jumped at the opportunity to tell a story with honesty and heart. Most people don't know that his is a true underdog story, and I hope to tell it in a compelling, genuine way, using all source materials available to convey his tale of becoming an icon for this digital age. This is the story of a new voice continuing the tradition of musicians that defined their generation."

The Justin Bieber movie comes out on Valentine's Day weekend, 2011.
