Liman's film, based on the real-life tribulations of American spy Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) and her husband Joe Wilson (Sean Penn), is something of a departure for the director, who has so far specialized in hip comedies (Swingers, Go) and high-octane action-thrillers The Bourne Identity, Jumper). Fair Game, on the other hand is perhaps the director's most adult work, as it focuses on Plame's exposure as a CIA operative and the ensuing chaos that her life undergoes.
The film comes out on November 5th, courtesy of Summit Entertainment (a long way from Twilight). In addition to Watts and Penn, Fair Game stars Sam Shepard, Ty Burrell, Brooke Smith and Bruce McGill.
