'Skyfall' International Trailer: Javier Bardem's Time to Shine

Without a proper villain, James Bond is just a ridiculously handsome, charming, and capable secret agent who flies all over the planet beating the hell out of people and bedding impossibly beautiful women.  Okay, so Ian Fleming's quintessential wish-fulfillment superspy is still pretty cool without a proper bad guy, but as a new international trailer for Skyfall proves, an imposing villain certainly helps make 007 a solid hero.

This new trailer clock in at only a minute and is largely an abbreviated version of the domestic trailer revealed at the end of July.  The focus has been changed to focus less on the protagonist and the plot and instead highlight the mysterious new bad guy played by Oscar winner Javier Bardem.  While it builds up Bardem's character as a huge threat, the trailer is also peppered with new footage throughout, including the villain looking a little like Hannibal Lector.

Thankfully, this video kindly provided by Coming Soon also includes Bardem saying that mommy has been very bad.

The mommy to whom he refers is, of course, M, Bond's boss played by Judi Dench since GoldenEye.

With less than two months before Skyfall arrives at American theaters, the twenty-third movie in this franchise still has many a secret.  If you want to keep it that way, then stop paying attention when the film hits many international markets on October 26th.  Then you'll be a clean slate when Skyfall hits Stateside theaters and IMAX on November 9th.

Sam Mendes joins the franchise as a director, and the guy behind American Beauty, Away We Go, Revolutionary Road and Road to Perdition is an interesting choice to deliver a Bond movie that deviates from the formula.  Promisingly, Mendes also brought along some frequent collaborators like composer Thomas Newman, a ten-time Oscar nominee, and cinematographer Roger Deakins, a shooter with nine Academy Award nominations of his own.
