'Red 2' Set Photos: Bruce Willis & Co. on a Mission to Moscow

Last week we saw a new trailer for A Good Day to Die Hard, which takes invulnerable cop John McClane to Russia.  Now we have a significantly less polished look at Red 2, another action sequel that will apparently find a Bruce Willis character on a mission to Moscow.

A crop of photos from the set of Red 2 have ambled online, but they're not actually from Russia.  Instead, the production is shooting exteriors on a London street mocked up and abetted by a green screen to create a facsimile of Moscow.  You can tell beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is meant to be Russia because of Willis's fuzzy hat.

In addition to Bruce Willis, you can get a look at returning Red actors Mary-Louise Parker and Jon Malkovich, along with newcomer Anthony Hopkins.  That's it for castmembers on display here, but the sequel does also feature the likes of Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta-Jones, David Thewlis, Byung-hun Lee, and Neal McDonough.

These thoroughly unofficial photos are from WENN, but they're here thanks to the good folks at Coming Soon.

The first Red was loosely based on the comic book written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hammer.  Screenwriting duo Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber, who also recently wrote Battleship, are back on script duty for Red 2.  The first film's director, Robert Schwentke, is busy with the Dark Horse adaptation R.I.P.D. starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds.  So in his stead, Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot is orchestrating the action for the sequel, which might mean that the comedic element will be more pronounced this time around.

We'll see when Red 2 arrives on August 2, 2013.
