'Rise of the Guardians' Featurette: Jack Frost Makes Like Iceman

Halloween is mere hours away, meaning that year's best season is about to give way to the holiday season proper.  In addition to all the Christmas decorations going on sale at your local Target, the holiday spirit brings with it seasonally-appropriate movies aimed right at families.  One of these is Rise of the Guardians, and a new featurette focused on one of the characters shows just how wintery and seasonal the movie is.

Not only that, but this featurette also showcases some really handsome movement and visuals from the latest DreamWorks Animation joint.  Unlike many an animated feature, this one doesn't follow a bunch of anthropomorphized animals spouting pop culture references.  Instead, it follows an Avengers-style team of holiday figures like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny as they battle Pitch, a nefarious spirit looking to take over Earth.

The principal fantasy figure in Rise of the Guardians is Jack Frost, voiced by Chris Pine.  Frost rolls very much like Iceman, controlling winter weather and flying around impishly, but when they're faced with Pitch's villainy, the titular guardians attempt to recruit Frost.  The team already consists of Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, and Sandman, voiced by Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, and Isla Fisher, respectively, with Sandman going silent.  Jude Law, meanwhile, makes an auditory appearance as Pitch.

Guillermo del Toro repeats his Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots role as executive producer here, giving Rise of the Guardians a bit of geek credibility.  Peter Ramsey makes his feature directorial debut, and he has apparently worked quite closely with William Joyce, the author behind the novel series on which the film is based.  The screenplay is written by David Lindsay-Abaire, the Pulitzer Prize winning Rabbit Hole playwright whose film credits include Robots, Inkheart, and next year's Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Pick up some Rogue 3D Eyewear while there's still time, as Rise of the Guardians rises in 3D on November 21st.
