This French poster debuted at CineHeroes, and its decidedly more Pitch Black than The Chronicles of Riddick.
That's doubtless by design, since director David Twohy is looking to return Riddick to his roots with a small scale sci-fi survival actioner rather than the histrionics and awkwardness of Riddick-as-hero seen in 2004's Chronicles of Riddick.
The story, too, is more like the older film. Though we last saw Diesel's nihilistic murderer taking over as emperor of the Necromonger empire, Riddick picks up with the anti-hero marooned on a desolate planet, then shows how he went from A to B in flashbacks. Marooned and alone, Riddick must activate a distress beacon, bringing him to the attention of some mercenaries who would love to claim his smooth cranium. Said mercenaries discover that not only is Riddick wily prey, but the planet's inhabitants are bloodthirsty alien beasts.
Diesel is obviously the star here, but the cast also includes Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Molla, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Raoul Trujillo, and even Karl Urban briefly reprising his role as Lord Vaako from the last film, which came and went almost a decade ago.
Riddick does not yet have a domestic or international release date, but as you can see on the poster, 2013 is the planned window for release.
