Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper are teaming up for an untitled action-comedy written by Up in the Air co-writer Sheldon Turner, reports Risky Business Blog. Described as being in the vein of Lethal Weapon, the flick will pair the two actors with a pair of yet-unnamed older thespians to play their fathers.

According to Risky Business, the story follows two friends, who are also San Francisco cops, whose fathers were once partners on the police force. The older generation is forced out of retirement to help their sons crack a case, with typically antagonistic results.

While both Reynolds and Cooper have star power and are floating near the top of the A list, I wonder if this pairing really makes sense. The two are too similar in my eyes; in this scenario you need two guys who are opposites. But I guess the real sparks will come from the guys' interactions with their respective pops. That casting will be crucial, and I wonder if we'll be hearing the names of the usual suspects (Nick Nolte, Tommy Lee Jones... Clint Eastwood?) for the sure-to-be-grouchy older coppers.

Turner evidently nabbed upwards of seven figures for the screenplay. The movie will be produced by J.C. Spink and Chris Bender of Benderspink, Neal Moritz, Andrew Panay and Reynolds’ Dark Trick Films partner Jonathon Komack Martin.

Reynolds will next been seen in the thriller Buried and the superhero movie Green Lantern.  He's set to shoot the comedy The Change-Up with Jason Bateman, and is also attached to comic-book movies Deadpool and R.I.P.D., and the spy-thriller Safe House with Denzel Washington. As for Cooper, he'll be seen in theaters next year in the sci-fi thriller The Dark Fields.  He's also set to star in The Hangover 2.

What do you think of the idea of pairing Reynolds and Cooper together?
