Five New 'Warm Bodies' Posters Provide Undead Puns

Five fresh new character posters promoting Warm Bodies are making the rounds online thanks to Summit Entertainment today.

The posters feature Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, and Rob Corddry as characters living and undead, but more importantly, each contains a prominently placed pun, so this series of posters is also a pun run.

Warm Bodies, based on the novel by Isaac Marion, stars Hoult as R, an existentially confused zombies whose inner monologue doesn't correspond to his shuffling, apparently mindless existence.  When he runs into Palmer as Julie, one of the world's few remaining humans, however, he promptly falls in love with her and slowly bu surely reclaims his humanity, as well as that of his fellow undead, such as Corddry as his best buddy M.

The challenge in selling Warm Bodies is that, with its handsome zombie and Summit seal of approval, it could give the impression of being a Twilight story with zombies.  It's unlikely that the film will feel even remotely like that, since it's written and directed by The Wackness and 50/50 helmer Jonathan Levine, but Summit still has to convince audiences that this is a thoroughly comedic movie.

Perhaps that's why the puns are so integral to each of these posters, which showed up on the film's Facebook.  Each poster implicitly promises, "Don't worry, we're not talking this zombie love story too seriously."

Warm Bodies arrives in theaters on February 1, 2013.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that it will be a good time in the vein of the classic Shaun of the Dead.
