Man of Steel is, of course, the reboot that won't acknowledge Richard Donner's seminal Superman or Bryan Singer's crazy-reverent Superman Returns. Instead, we're getting a new version of Superman's familiar origin story, an attempt to tap some primal core of the character and shake the dust off Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's superhero of superheroes.
With Cavill as Supes and Clark Kent, the cast also boasts Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Ayelet Zurer, Laurence Fishburne, Richard Schiff, Harry Lennix, and Christopher Meloni. All of them acting under the direction of Zack Snyder, who is working from a story hashed out by David S. Goyer and his Batman Begins director Christopher Nolan, who serves as executive producer here.
Anyways, this new image debuted in a USA Today preview of thirteen movies scheduled for 2013.
Though it's not quite possible to tell for sure, this image appears to come from a scene glimpsed in the theatrical trailer, which found Supes and Lois Lane standing in the desert with a ludicrous amount of military firepower amassed behind them.
Since even before production began, we've known that the military will play a pivotal role in Man of Steel's still-secret story. Both Meloni and Lennix play military brass, and Chicago was selected as a shooting location partially because of the access it afforded to all manner of military hardware. The most recent poster for the film has Cavill's Superman handcuffed and in the custody of several soldiers.
We'll see just how well Krypton's last son fares against the might of military industrial complex when Man of Steel arrives in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on June 14th.
