Based on the children's book by Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett, the 2009 hyperactive 2009 movie ended up surprising a whole lot of people as a commercial and critical success. Surprise aside, Sony wasn't going to dawdle around with a family friendly franchise waiting to happen, so Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers is set for this September 27th. The reveal of this image suggests a trailer is just around the corner, but for now, let's dig in to what we've got.
The sequel, impossibly funny human and returning voice of Flint Lockwood Bill Hader explains to USA Today, "picks up very closely after first film ended. They've won the battle but they haven't won the war yet. The war against food." After the massive food storm in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, it appeared that Flint's FLDSMDFR invention had been destroyed, but apparently the device that first turned water into food is still chugging along.
"It's created these living food creatures that have basically taken over
Flint's home, the island where he lives. That island is kind of like
Jurassic Park," says Hader. These creatures include tacodiles, fruit cockatiels, cucumbirds, bananostriches, flamangoes, wildabeets and watermelophants. Many of them are on display in the image below.

In addition to the foo-imals, you can see Lockwood himself, along with Sam Sparks, voiced by Anna Faris, Steve the talking monkey voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, and Officer Devereux, who was voiced by Mr. T in the first movie but is brought to aural life by Terry Crews in the new movie. The voice cast also includes funny people Will Forte and Kristen Schaal, along with James Caan reprising his role as Flint's pop.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the duo who wrote and directed the first film, are currently very busy with Lego: The Piece of Resistance and the 21 Jump Street sequel. In their stead, Sony drafted Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. The directors are working from a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who wrote Horrible Bosses, as well as the upcoming The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
Since Hader is involved, that means this is an opportunity to revel in the oddity that is Stefan:
