Like 2004's Before Sunset, this latest sequel reunites director Richard Linklater with stars Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke. After earning an Academy Award nomination for the Before Sunset screenplay on which all three collaborated, this one once again boasts a script by Linklater, Delpy, and Hawke.
The original film introduced Jesse and Celine, a young American tourist and a French student who meet on a train to Vienna and promptly fall in love over a ridiculously romantic day, only to go their separate ways at the end. The first sequel picks up a decade later in Paris, with a married Jesse running into Celine at the last stop on his book tour.
Linklater and his collaborators pulled a fast one last year, publicly insisting that Before Midnight wouldn't for some time, with Hawke even denying reports of filming in Greece. In September, however, it emerged that filming had, in fact, been completed in Messinia. Now the movie is playing Sundance and sure to find a distributor in no time flat.
Spoiler alert, but after the last entry ended on an uncertain note, this one finds Jesse and Celine married with twin daughters, keeping their romance alive and juggling their emotional obligations on yet another single day.
