Because the general public just isn't cognizant enough of movie awards at this point of the year, the Academy has also formally announced that the final voting for members on the 85th Annual Academy Awards begins today, February 8th. The voting period continues up until 5 pm on February 19th.
"We're looking forward to a continuation of the high turnout we saw during the nominations phase," said Ric Robertson, the Academy's COO.
Back to the promo. A few Fridays ago, the first of these promos hit online. That first one featured an excerpt from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and imagined that the Family Guy creator might be staying in an adjacent room at the Bates Motel. The second, released last Friday, had MacFarlane playing a bartender and interacting with Pierce Brosnan's 007 in The World is Not Enough.
Between the Bond promo and this The Matrix one, the celebration of cinema is confined mostly to 1999. How odd.
In addition to hosting this year's ceremony, the writer-director-digital-teddy-bear of Ted is also nominated for his first Academy Award, on account of the song "Everyone Needs a Best Friend," which he wrote with Walter Murphy. Norah Jones, who made a cameo in Ted, will perform the Best Original Song nominee during the Oscar telecast.
MacFarlane, who played the titular teddy bear via motion capture, will bring the foul-mouthed stuffed animal to the show alongside his co-star Mark Wahlberg.
The 85th Annual Academy Awards go down on Sunday, February 24th.
And here's a picture of Best Actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis as Hush Puppy in Beasts of the Southern Wild because Hush Puppy is awesome.
