Liam Neeson Takes the Helm of Peter Berg's 'Battleship'

Liam Neeson has joined Peter Berg's Battleship, bringing some much needed star power to a flick that boasts a cast of mostly up-and-comers and unknowns. The tale of a Naval warship going up against alien invaders needed a strong presence at the helm, and has just got it in one of cinema's most recognizable faces.

Neeson plays Admiral Shane, the Naval officer whose daughter (played by Brooklyn Decker) is engaged to a young naval officer (played by Taylor Kitsch). I assume Neeson will be doing his thing, which is to be stern and intimidating when he has to, all the while hiding a softie's big heart. Hey, the man's good at it.

Aside from Neeson, Kitsch and Decker, Battleship stars Rhianna, Alexander Skarsgard, Lil Mirkk and Tom Arnold. It comes out on May 18, 2012.
