Set for June 28th, White House Down is 2013's other "Die Hard in the White House" movie. Now that Olympus Has Fallen is in theaters and performing better than anticipated, Sony Pictures can get to work convincing people that White House Down is an entirely different movie than its predecessor.
Emmerich is the director behind Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, 10,000 B.C., The Patriot, and even 1998's Americanized Godzilla. So you know his action movie set at 1600 Pennsylvania will be a cinematic St. Bernard: a big, dumb, slobbering beast that you somehow can't resist for exactly the qualities that make it impractical.
This one stars Channing Tatum as an aspiring Secret Service agent who ends up in a McClane-ish position after a bunch of bad guys led by Jason Clarke storm the White House and take hostages including the president, played by Jamie Foxx.
The supporting cast here includes ringers like Maggie Gyllenhaal, Richard Jenkins, James Woods, Jimmi Simpson, Lance Reddick, Rachelle Lefevre, and Garcelle Beauvais.
Check back after 7:00pm on Tuesday to see the first White House Down trailer.
