Because $671 million worldwide just is not enough, Summit Entertainment is re-releasing The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in over 1,000 theaters to celebrate "Bella Swan's birthday". No, this is not a drill, this is really happening!
According to the ever-reliable Deadline.com, the official line is that Summit is
"allowing moviegoers to celebrate Bella’s birthday with their friends" in 1,187 theaters in North America. The film made $298 million domestically, so this should be enough to push it over the $300 mark, if nothing else.
According to her Twilight Wiki page (yep, it exists), Bella's birthday is on September 13th. However - SPOILER ALERT - her "vampire" birthday evidently happens three days before. On the 10th. Which is this Friday. Hence, you've got a re-release. And with no new Twilight film until November 2011, I guess every little bit counts...
That's the quick anatomy of a cash-grab, folks.
Are you planning on seeing Eclipse again in the theater?
