After the big whiff that was Dr. Curt Connors and The Lizard in last summer's The Amazing Spider-Man, returning director Marc Webb and his creative team are apparently determined to ensure that the sequel isn't populated by boring villains with inexplicable motivations. When The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014, it will feature at least two visually striking bad guys.
One of those bad guys is Electro, played by Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx. Before he gets his superpowers, Max Dillion is an uber-nerd with a combover, pocket protector, and too-short pants. Once he becomes Electro, his look gets even more aggressive, as set photos have shown Foxx with blue, bio-luminescent skin.
As for Aleksei Sytsevich, we don't yet know if we'll be seeing Giamatti in a huge Rhino suit tearing stuff apart. But as this image tweeted by Webb indicates, Giamatti is still going to look plenty outlandish, what with the barbwire tattoo running across his forehead and all.
Want a better look at Giamatti in character, as well as some new images featuring the redesigned Spider-Man suit sported by Garfield and a host of stuntment in the sequel? Good news! We've got a bunch of those, thanks to SuperHeroHype.
Unlike all the other Spidey movies we've seen over the last decade and change, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is shooting entirely in New York. That means many, many pictures from the streets of the metropolis. The latest come from Brooklyn, where the production shot pieces of an action scene over the weekend. Take a peek:
Garfield returns from the reboot, alongside Emma Stone, Sally Field, and even Martin Sheen. Giamatti and Fox play the principal baddies, while Chris Cooper and Dane DeHaan both set up potential villains for the planned third installment as the rebooted iterations of Norman Osborn and his son Harry. Shailene Woodley, meanwhile, joins the franchise as our new Mary Jane Watson.
