Set to air on the cable network this August, Clear History is loosely inspired by the story of an Apple employee described in Walter Isaacson's bestselling Steve Jobs biography. David plays the central figure, Nathan, a marketing executive at a promising start-up who leaves the company following a dispute with his boss, played by Hamm. He sells his shares just in time to watch the company's revolutionary electric car make billions and billions of dollars.
The movie then picks up a decade later, with Nathan having changed his name in humiliation.
This teaser doesn't tell us anything about the story, really. But it does throw down that cast list and shows off Larry David looking nothing like Larry David, covered in a beard and shaggy hair while blasting around in a convertible.
Clear History is directed by Greg Mottola.
If you're wondering how cool Mottola is and it somehow isn't enough for you that he helmed many an episode of Undeclared and Arrested Development, consider that after scoring a massive hit with Superbad in 2007, Mottola used his clout to make Adventureland, an intensely personal little comedy-drama shot through with bittersweetness.
For this new venture, Mottola supervised a cast through a largely improvised production in a style similar to David's HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm.
“It’s all about capturing spontaneity," Mottola tells Entertainment Weekly, where the image below debuted. “The lightning in a bottle stuff that if you have really fun people happens more than you expect.”
