Over the last several days, this mock-commercial has gone viral. It's not hard to see why. After all, the clip does feature an absolutely gorgeous model in a bikini, a picturesque beach, an aquatic apex predator, and a truly killer joke that arrives at exactly the right moment. Not only has the video earned a massive boatload of views, but it has also sparked a spirited online debate as to whether or not it's appropriate as an ad.
Only it is most definitely not an actual ad. This "Russian Tampax ad" is, in fact, a typically hilarious and provocative excerpt from Movie 43, one of the most happily silly comedies ever committed to film. It's a perfect example of Movie 43's willingness to push the boundaries of good taste for a perfectly timed joke.
It's just one small sampling of the wildly inappropriate comedic stylings on offer in Movie 43, an anthology comedy boasting an all-star cast that includes Kate Winslet, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Stephen Merchant, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Gerard Butler, Liev Schreiber, Kieran Culkin, Richard Gere, Kate Bosworth, Jack McBrayer, Kristen Bell, Justin Long, Uma Thurman, Bobby Cannavale, Leslie Bibb, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Grace Moretz, Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, Terrence Howard, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Duhamel, Anna Faris, Chris Pratt, J.B. Smoove, Dennis Quaid, Greg Kinnear, Common, Seth MacFarlane, and Nicole “Snookie” Polizzi.
Movie 43 is produced by Dumb & Dumber co-director Peter Farrelly, alongside Charles Wessler and John Penotti.
Farrelly also directed two of the original shorts that comprise the unique comedy. Other segments boast directors as varied as Bob Odenkirk, Elizabeth Banks, Jonathan van Tulleken, Patrik Forsberg, James Duffy, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, Steven Brill, and even James Gunn, who is currently busy directing Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Movie 43 is freshly available on Blu-ray and DVD. It's also available for purchase or rental on iTunes. So if you were fooled by this Russian Tampax commercial, check out Movie 43 right now!
