For a time, director Darren Aronofsky was set to follow-up his 2010 critical and commercial hit Black Swan with what is now titled The Wolverine. When the helmer of Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and The Wrestler jumped ship from that comic book movie, though, he turned his attention to this longtime passion project.
Yes, before anybody asks, Noah is about that Noah. The Old Testament figure who, on God's command, builds a massive ark and collects two of every animal to ride out an apocalyptic flood in the Book of Genesis.
Under Aronofsky's always ambitious auspices, however, the movie Noah will most assuredly take an unexpected and stylized approach to the material, offering up a different take on a very familiar tale.
Aronofsky, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ari Handel and Skyfall writer John Logan, has put together a cast that, taken as a whole, indicates his epic approach to this story. Russell Crowe, presumably in determined hero mode, stars as the title character, with Jennifer Connelly as his wife Naameh. Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Anthony Hopkins, and Ray Winstone also have substantial parts to play.
They're not included in the picture above, but Douglas Booth, Kevin Durand, Marton Csokas, Madison Davenport, and Dakota Goya also appear in the film.
Noah is currently set to arrive in theaters nationwide on March 28, 2014.
