Peter Berg's 'Lone Survivor' Gets a Trailer, Poster, and Images

Universal Pictures isn't dribbling out promotional material from this winter's Lone Survivor

Instead of whetting our appetite for Peter Berg's based-on-a-true-story Navy SEAL tale, the studio has instead opened up the Lone Survivor floodgates, revealing a full-on theatrical trailer, official poster, and no fewer than ten stills highlighting the cast.

Mark Wahlberg leads that cast Marcus Luttrell, a Texas native and Navy SEAL, who, along with three other members of SEAL Team 10, found himself outgunned and surrounded in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush Mountains.  There, Operation Redwing was intended to find a high-level al Qaeda leader, but instead ended up against a Taliban army.

In addition to Wahlberg, the cast here includes Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Alexander Ludwig, and even Eric Bana, who so memorably played a Delta Force operator in Black Hawk Down.

With last summer's Battleship, Berg made his veneration of those who serve abundantly clear.  This passion project brings that spirit to a real war story; Lutrell's memoir describes a really devastating ordeal, and doubtless Berg is really digging in, but this trailer feels pretty familiar and straightforward, as the on the nose Peter Gabriel "Heroes" cover indicates.

Thanks to Huffington Post for the trailer.

Lone Survivor is set to open in limited release on December 27th so as to qualify for the 2014 awards.  The film then expands to nationwide release on January 10th.
