'Breaking Bad' and 'Modern Family' Win Big at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards

The inimitable Neil Patrick Harris presided over the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles last night, adding a bit of Stinsonian charm to the annual meting out of trophies from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Right now you're thinking, "Hey, this is a movie site!  Take your television awards elsewhere!"  Trust us, though, there's some noteworthy overlap.

Behind the Candelabra, what might end up being Steven Soderbergh's directorial swan song, won three awards in the Miniseries or Movie categories, including one for Soderbergh, one for Michael Douglas, and Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.

And David Fincher won an Emmy too, on account of his directing the first episode of House of Cards, the Netflix series starring Kevin Spacey and Kate Mara.  And Claire Danes scored a win for her work on Homeland, with James Cromwell and Ellen Burnstyn also taking home Emmys.

On the actual TV series side of things, Breaking Bad and Modern Family won the big awards in the Drama and Comedy categories.  Anna Gunn was the only Breaking Bad actor to get an award last night, with Jeff Daniels winning Lead Actor in a Dramatic Series for his performance on HBO's The Newsroom.

Louie, it's worth noting, was completely shut out.  But that suits the show's personal, shaggy dog style.
