‘Triffids’ Gets 3D Makeover

John Wyndham’s novel "The Day of the Triffids", which made it’s way to film on three separate occasions (the first being the 1963 cult classic Steve Sekely helmed adaptation which is now often found under the title Invasion of the Triffids, and twice as the source title for British television) in the past, will head to the big screen in 3D, reports Fangoria.com per Variety.

The story centers on killer plants that show up in the wake of a meteor shower. Blinded (by the immense meteor shower) humans are then attacked at a staggering rate. Sekely’s original take is a goofy-but-enjoyable flick that apparently still garners enough interest to launch a fourth reboot. I personally have yet to see either British version.

Don Murphy and Michael Preger will produce the film. Preger, who produced John Carpenter’s Village of the Damned, which is itself a Wyndham adaptation, has owned the rights to Triffids for some 20 years now. Both he and Murphy have planned the making of this film since the 90’s; the film will finally meet production as Preger now feels technology has advanced enough to do the film justice. “We are confident that with the new technological advances in 3-D production, we have the tools with which to create Wyndham’s iconic vision of Armageddon.” states Preger. “This original classic has still to be successfully envisioned on the screen. It is a story that strikes at the heart of what it means to be human—and does so in an intensely cinematic way.”Adds Murphy.
