Whether you realize it or not, Shawn Levy is one of the most successful Hollywood directors working today. Between Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, Night at the Museum, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and Date Night; his films together have grossed over 1 billion dollars worldwide. Levy’s latest movie, Real Steel starring Hugh Jackman opens in theaters on October 7th and is set to add to the director’s already impressive box office total.
With his extremely successful track record, it only makes sense that Levy would have several different projects currently in the works. While the director is attached to helm both a retelling of Frankenstein, and a James Cameron produced remake of ‘1966s Fantastic Voyage for 20th Century Fox, he can only make one film at a time and exactly which one it will be is still apparently up in the air. There is also the long rumored film The Hardy Men, an updated version of the classic detective novels starring power duo Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise. Not to mention that Levy was once set to direct an adaptation of the DC Comics super hero The Flash, and with Warner Brothers focusing on utilizing their DC properties more frequently on the big screen, it’s entirely possible that he could end up returning to the project once again.
Earlier today, while at the press day for Real Steel, I had a opportunity to sit down with Shawn Levy and speak to him exclusively about Real Steel and a few of his upcoming projects. While the video of my interview won’t be posted until closer to the release of the film, I wanted to let you know now what the director had to say about Frankenstein, Fantastic Voyage; which one he will make first, the plot of Frankenstein, the current status on The Hardy Men, and if he would still consider directing The Flash.
Today was the first weekday in a spell that did not include a new character poster for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. It's not wand-waving from Warner Bros, but DreamWorks is making up for it a bit. The studio released a new international one sheet for Real Steel, a family friendly event film set in a future where boxing has been replaced by one-on-one robotic combat. The last teaser poster featured only a robo-hand on the the robo-ropes, but this new poster includes a full pugi-bot (albeit from behind), as well as the silhouettes of Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo. Take a peek.
Do you want to go have a Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey? Or if you are not into that, you could always hang around The Joneses and find out about all the appliances, gadgets and gizmos that you don’t have.
That’s it folks. Not a big day for DVD and Blu-ray release. First up is the hit comedy about a couple looking for some quality time together in Date Night. The film scored some decent critical praise and even found an audience making it a modest hit. Fey, Carell and the scene with the gun pointed the kill way? I’m up for it.
