It was a battle of the sexes - and generations - at the box office this weekend, as three high-profile releases all vied for the attention of moviegoers. The biggest face-off was between the testosterone-fet The Expendables and the Julia Roberts-starrer Eat Pray Love, while the younger-skewing Scott Pilgrim vs. The World came in hoping to be the dark horse. Three different kinds of films each aimed at different quadrants - but only one could be the winner: one of the more interesting battles of the summer, to be sure.

Ryan Murphy, creator of the hit show "Glee" and director of sure-to-be-a-hit Eat Pray Love has found his next labor of love: a film adaptation of Larry Kramer's seminal play The Normal Heart, which will star Mark Ruffalo. Eat Pray Love

Friday, 16 July 2010 11:17

Synopsis: Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) had everything a modern woman is supposed to dream of having - a husband, a house, a successful career - yet like so many others, she found herself lost, confused, and searching for what she really wanted in life. Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali. Based upon the bestselling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat Pray Love proves that there really is more than one way to let yourself go and see the world.

'Eat Pray Love' duo join forces again

Ryan Murphy is having a pretty good year, and it's only looking to get better.

The "Glee" creator, who has the sure-thing Eat Pray Love coming out in August, is getting ready to re-team with that film's star, Julia Roberts, for an untitled romantic comedy. The best part? Sony is going to pay him $5 million to write and direct it.

While stars are known for commanding and receiving high paydays, very few directors are able to rake in that kind of dough. But with "Glee" a smash hit and Eat Pray Love obviously pleasing Sony's execs, the guy isn't missing a beat lately. (I didn't even mention the fact that "Nip/Tuck", which Murphy also created, wrapped up its sixth successful season earlier this year.)
