Halloween is a holiday that anyone, aside from religious fundamentalists afraid of occult hokum, can enjoy fully.  Kids get pillowcases full of free candy, adolescents get to egg and teepee houses, adults get to drink and enjoy revealing costumes.  It's all good.  A new rumor suggests that this year, there will be even greater incentive for attention-getting women to add "sexy Ghostbuster" to their repertoire of arbitrarily salacious costumes, since word on the interwebs is that Ghostbusters will be returning to theaters for a theatrical re-release on All Hallows' Eve.

Like many other means of modern social networking, Twitter no doubt has the potential to be utilized as little more than a facilitator of digital narcissism, but it also presents a plethora of opportunities for unique discourse that would otherwise have been unlikely, if not impossible.  If, for example, you wanted to address any number of questions to horror director/writer/composer John Carpenter, you'll have a chance to do so this week during a live tweeting Q & A session with the man behind Halloween, Escape from New York, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China, Starman, and The Thing.

Opening in theaters in Los Angeles on April 29th is the new Post-Apocalyptic vampire/zombie movie by director Jim Mickle called Stake Land. The film boasts a stellar cast that includes Connor Paolo (Gossip Girl), Nick Damici (The Black Donnellys), Danielle Harris (Halloween), Michael Cerveris (Fringe), Sean Nelson (American Buffalo), and Kelly McGillis (Top Gun, Witness). We recently had a chance to sit down with actress Danielle Harris to discuss the new film, her role, and her experience working with director Jim Mickle.

Fans of the horror film genre know actress Danielle Harris best from her role as Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, part of the original Halloween series of films. But the actress is also well known for portraying Annie Brackett in director Rob Zombie's re-imagining of the series, Halloween and Halloween II. While the actress has appeared in several successful films outside of the horror genre such as Marked for Death, City Slickers, The Last Boy Scout, and Free Willy, she has definitely made a name for herself as one of the top "scream queens" working today.

Like clowns, dolls are inherently creepy.  Now that MGM is solvent and back in the game, the studio is eager to reboot the Child's Play horror franchise, which starred a hideous, red headed doll possessed by the spirit of a serial killer.  Brad Dourif, who voiced Chucky the murderous doll in the first film and its four sequels, will return for the remake.  He'll be joined by writer and potential director Don Mancini, who wrote all five films and directed the last installment, Seed of Chucky.

October 25, 2010: The Devil’s Rejects

It’s almost hard to look at a film like The Devil’s Rejects and simply put it under the heading “horror”. Yet, for all intent and purposes, it feels like a horror film.  After all, it is a sequel to Zombie's first bloody show, House of 1000 Corpses.

Rogue 10: Top Ten Haunted House Horrors

A good ghost story has always found its way into our lives. Who hasn’t had the experience of sitting around a campfire late at night, with one person tries to out-scare the other. The idea that ghosts, or demons are watching over us is a common one. The mystery of it is also quite addictive. An unexplained noise that occurs just out of sight or a door that swings open and shut without any physical help. It all adds up to a great way to scare your friends, and of course, yourself.

With Paranormal Activity 2 scaring up a huge opening weekend, iamROGUE.com wanted to look back at some of the most terrifying ghost stories ever put on film. Once again, we look at some of the obvious ones, and then there are others you may not be familiar with. And yes, for us, Paranormal Activity made the cut… but which one and how high on the list will it be?

iamROGUE's 10 Iconic Faces Of Horror

Fear is a very natural emotion that 99.9% of this world’s occupants deal with day to day. Unlike happiness, sadness, or anger, fear clings to the soul, nestling in the mind’s memory chamber, wrapping itself around your every thought, squeezing, reminding us: the unpredictable exists. Reminding us, comfort is a state of mind, breakable in all of it’s glory, inferior to terror.

But what is so perplexing about fear, is mankind’s hunger for the sensation. We crave fear. We chew on fear, swallow, and regurgitate, all the while terrified of what newest incarnation might erupt from our inner core. And this is why we as humans, not just American’s, or the “mentally disturbed”, or the socially outcast, carry a deep love for horror films and literature.

We want to be scared. But make no mistake, we also want to know that when the lights go down, Boris Karloff won’t slink through our windows, wrapped in cloth, arms outstretched. We want to know that Bela Lugosi won’t be breathing down our necks, battling an insatiable thirst for blood. We want fear, but we want comfort as a close companion.
