Opening in Los Angeles on September 2nd is a new film from veteran director Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger) called 5 Days of War. The movie is based on the true story of the 2008 Russo-Georgian war and stars an impressive cast of actors including Academy Award nominee Andy Garcia (The Godfather Part III, Ocean's Eleven), Val Kilmer (The Doors, Batman Forever), Rupert Friend (Pride and Prejudice), Emmanuelle Chriqui (HBO's Entourage), Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Antje Traue (Man of Steel), Dean Cain (TV's Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), Johnathon Schaech (Takers), and Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, The Hangover).

IAR's managing editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to sit down with Renny Harlin to discuss 5 Days of War. The seasoned director spoke candidly with us about his new movie, the real-life events that it is based on, the difficulty of recreating a war, and why the president of Georgia wanted Andy Garcia to portray him in the film.

Here in America, we love buying products with negligible utility, particularly if such items are sold to us via out televisions, like the immortal EggWave and ShamWOW, both of which no doubt enriched countless lives with the endless convenience assured by their quality manufacturing.  In Father of Invention, two-time Oscar winner and one-time Verbal Kint Kevin Spacey plays Robert Axle, a millionaire with an infomercial empire.  His latest contraption, a remote control/ab workout combination called The Ab-Clicker ends up chopping consumers fingers off, though, and after a lengthy stay in prison, Axle has to try to pull his once-magnificent live back together.  The first trailer for Father of Inventiona has arrived for your viewing pleasure.

Some journalists who risk their lives as active observers covering armed conflict all over the world – and in fact many of individuals who, for whatever reason, find themselves on hand to witness the horrors of war – naturally adopt a gallows humor that can seem shockingly flippant in the context of actual war.  A new, exclusive clip from 5 Days of War introduces the primary characters, including Val Kilmer as the type of war correspondent who typifies that jaded gallows humor, greeting his compatriots with a casual, "Glad you guys didn't die." 

Not many directors can successfully carry the marketing of a major summer movie without recognizable stars, an identifiable source material, or even a clear concept.  Though it is only his third feature film, Super 8 was sold principally as collaboration between writer-director JJ Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg, whose early films served as inspiration for the would-be blockbuster.  The nostalgic adventure opened with an estimated $37.0 million in receipts.  This is not the huge take that would necessarily be expected from a Spielberg-Abrams joint, but it does exceed last week's less-than-stellar expectations.

Relativity Media has announced in a press release today that they've licensed the Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer cable television premiere rights to the House of Mouse for it's TV debut in 2013.

David Spiegelman, President, TV Sales & Digital Distribution states: “There is no question that Disney Channel is the ideal home for Judy Moody's network premiere as their audience captures our target demographic. Opening in theaters on June 10th is big screen adaptation of Megan McDonald's beloved children's books entitled Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer.
