Rob Zombie is an accomplished musician, director, screenwriter, and producer. Is there anything he can’t do? So far … not yet!

Zombie first gained attention in the mid-‘90s with his band White Zombie and their popular anthem "More Human than Human", which went on to become voted the 68th best hard rock song of all time according to VH1. After leaving the band and venturing out on a successful solo career, Zombie turned his focus on Hollywood, writing and directing the horror film House of 1000 Corpses, which featured his wife Sheri Moon Zombie, Academy Award-nominee Karen Black (Five Easy Pieces), and future stars Rainn Wilson (Super), Chris Hardwick (TV’s Talking Dead), and Walton Goggins (Django Unchained).

After writing, directing and producing the sequel to House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, Zombie was given the reigns to the Halloween franchise and wrote, directed and produced the popular remake, as well as it’s sequel Halloween II. In 2010 Zombie took a short break from filmmaking to direct an episode of CSI: Miami, and will soon attempt to make his first film outside of the horror genre with The Broad Street Bullies, a Hockey movie based on the true story of the Philadelphia Flyers. But first, the accomplished musician turned filmmaker returns to the big screen with an original horror film that he has once again written, directed and produced entitled The Lords of Salem, which opens in theaters on April 19th.

The film stars Sheri Moon Zombie as Heidi, a radio DJ who is sent a box containing a record, which is a “gift from the Lords.” Assuming this is a new band’s demo, Heidi plays the album and it triggers her to have flashbacks of her town’s violent past. The question then becomes: is Heidi going crazy, or are the Lords actually demons who have returned from the dead to take revenge on Salem, Massachusetts? In addition to Sheri Moon Zombie, the film’s cast also includes many genre film icons such as Bruce Davidson (X-Men), Maria Conchita Alonso (The Running Man), Udo Kier (Blade), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead), Patricia Quinn (The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), and Meg Foster (They Live).

I recently had a chance to speak with musician turned writer/director/producer Rob Zombie about his work on The Lords of Salem, as well as his upcoming project The Broad Street Bullies. The prolific filmmaker discussed his new movie, why he left the Halloween franchise, growing up in Massachusetts, coming up with the concept for his new film, shooting in Salem, creating the characters, casting the movie, the great Meg Foster, his on set dynamic with wife and leading lady Sheri Moon Zombie, Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli’s lack of involvement in the film and how he still achieved a producer credit on it, what he learned from directing CSI: Miami, why this will be his last horror film, his next project - The Broad Street Bullies, when production will begin, and moving back and forth between recording music and filmmaking.

Opening in theaters on April 5th is the highly anticipated new horror film Evil Dead, which is a remake of director Sam Raimi's classic The Evil Dead trilogy starring Bruce Campbell. The new movie was written and directed by Fede Alvarez, and features Jane Levy (Nobody Walks), Shiloh Fernandez (Skateland), Lou Taylor Pucci (Beginners), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield), and newcomer Elizabeth Blackmore.

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Jessica Lucas and Shiloh Fernandez to talk about their work on Evil Dead. The two actors discussed their familiarity with the franchise, it's incredible fanbase, the legacy of Bruce Campbell, original producers Campbell, Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert's involvement with the new film, Easter eggs from the first two movies, what it was like for Lucas to become a deadite, the planned sequel, and how Fernandez found out the plot from writer/director Fede Alvarez

There is only one word that can accurately describe actor/producer Bruce Campbell … groovy!

Campbell has appeared in numerous film projects including Crimewave, Maniac Cop, Mindwarp, The Hudsucker Proxy, Congo, Fargo, Escape from L.A., McHale’s Navy, The Love Bug, The Majestic, the Spider-Man series, Bubba Ho-tep, Serving Sara, The Ladykillers, Sky High, My Name is Bruce, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Cars 2, and most recently Oz the Great and Powerful. Not to mention the actor has also starred on several popular TV series including The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., Xena: Warrior Princess, and the long running USA spy series Burn Notice, which is now going into its seventh season.

But without a doubt, Campbell is best known by fans for his film first role as Ashley J. “Ash” Williams in director Sam Raimi’s groundbreaking horror classic The Evil Dead, as well as its two sequels Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, and Army of Darkness, which he also produced along with Raimi and Robert Tapert. Now, with rumors of a possible sequel to Army of Darkness on the horizon, the trio has returned to produce Evil Dead, which is a remake of the classic film and opens in theaters on April 5th.

The new movie is a straight horror remake of the original and does not include any of the comedic or fantasy elements of the later series. It was directed by Fede Alvarez and based on a script by himself, Rodo Sayagues, and Oscar-winner Diablo Cody (Juno). The new film centers on five friends that head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival. The cast includes Jane Levy (Nobody Walks), Shiloh Fernandez (Skateland), Lou Taylor Pucci (Beginners), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield), and newcomer Elizabeth Blackmore

Last weekend at WonderCon in Anaheim, California, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with actor/producer and all-around groovy guy Bruce Campbell to talk about his role as a producer on Evil Dead, as well as the rumored sequel to Army of Darkness. The fan-favorite actor discussed the new movie, why they wanted to produce a remake, the decision to make it a straight horror film and not include any comedic or fantasy elements, Campbell, Raimi and Tapert’s role as producers on the film, if it should be considered a continuation of the original franchise or it’s own stand-alone series, Campbell’s possible end credit cameo, Diablo Cody’s contributions to the script, as well as Army of Darkness 2, why he’s skeptical that it will ever get made, whether or not the film will be a continuation of the director’s cut or the theatrical ending, if he is excited to reprise his role as Ash, and if he’s pleased in the renewed interest in The Evil Dead franchise.

The full theatrical trailer for the upcoming Carrie remake tacitly serves a message to bullies.

That message is a stern warning to stop being a jag, because the kid you're bullying might be dealing with a crazed fanatic of a mother and emergent telekinectic powers.  Powers that could really ruin prom night.
