If Miley Cyrus can host Saturday Night Live, then why can't Helen Mirren?  The 65 year-old Oscar winner will take the stage of Studio 8H on April 9th in order to promote Arthur, in which she plays sardonic nanny Hobson to Russell Brand's titular irrepressible billionaire.  Joining her on the show are musical guests the Foo Fighters.  The preceding week's show, on April 2nd, will see a British musical giant getting his sketch on, as Elton John has been set to host the first episode in April.

The tide seems to have turned against Zach Galifianakis.  Since he became a big deal in the biggest comedy of all time, The Hangover, he's popped up in a lot of movies, and none of them have endeared him to the movie going public the way that film did, not even Due Date, his reunion with Hangover director Todd Phillips.  He's now seen as something of a one-trick pony, but the comedian has years of bizarre and funny stand-up indicating that we've yet to see him reach his full cinematic potential.  Regardless, there's about to more Galifianakis out there, as he's hosting next week's episode of Saturday Night Live.

The episode will mark Galifianakis' second time as host of SNL.  His first hosting gig, he shaved his trademark beard, and starred in this unfailingly funny digital short:

Miley Cyrus To Party Away on SNL

Friday, 11 February 2011 10:31

So you know how Vanessa Bayer frequently mocks Miley Cyrus in the recurring Saturday Night Live sketch "The Miley Cyrus Show", which, despite not being terribly funny, manages to capture Cyrus's particular brand of obnoxiousness?  Well, you can bet dollars to donuts that the real Miley Cyrus will appear alongside her comedic doppleganger when she hosts the venerable comedy show.

As you know, Relativity Media recently produced the hit adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' Dear John. The movie garnered rave reviews and opened up at #1 at the box office. His other films - The Notebook and The Last Song among them - have all been hits, magically balancing romance and poignant drama to heart-wrenching effect.

DVD Review: 'The Last Song'

Wednesday, 18 August 2010 11:15

Ah, love is so beautiful when “forever” is written on a Converse and there are a ton of cool indie pop songs played. Lest we forget, you can never have enough teen angst because some girls’ lives are all tough and stuff. Thankfully, we can all live vicariously through Miley Cyrus in The Last Song.

Today on DVD and Blu-ray, Miley Cyrus sings a Last Song and Brendan Fraser has a bad case of Furry Vengeance.

First off, for all the Miley Cyrus fans and Nicholas Sparks' fans, the latest Nicholas Sparks (Dear John, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember) adaption arrives in The Last Song. Cyrus plays a rebellious youth who finds love and understanding when she meets a dreamy guy played by Liam Hemsworth, while spending the summer with her father, played by Greg Kinnear.

Miley Cyrus' 'LOL' cast grows

Wednesday, 30 June 2010 14:40

Miley Cyrus will continue to invade every facet of our lives with a new coming-of-age drama called LOL (this must be the day of dumb titles), a remake of a 2008 French flick from director Liza Azuelos, who is also helming the new one. Demi Moore is already on board to play Cyrus' momma, and the cast continues to expand, racking up a couple of decent names.

Ashley Greene (Twilight) and Thomas Jane (HBO's "Hung") have come aboard; Greene will play Cyrus' high school nemesis and Jane will portray her father. The story follows a teenager (Cyrus) who loses her more sexually experienced boyfriend and has to deal with unexpected drama from her divorcee mother (Moore), who is struggling to move on with her life.

I can't believe there's no dreamy British love interest for Cyrus- oh wait, there is. Hot lad of the moment Douglas Booth will be the object of Cyrus' affections. Remains to be seen if he's the stammering-charming type, or more the soft spoken-charming type.

This is the kind of movie that makes me want to run screaming into the hills, but it's probably guaranteed money in the bank with this cast, as it'll make for a wholesome family movie night. (The girls will enjoy the storyline, the guys will enjoy looking at the movie-star chicks.) It begins filming in Detroit next month.

Miley Cyrus cast in dark thriller Wake

Thursday, 17 June 2010 12:22

Miley Cyrus is continuing her "I`m a grown-up, y`all" phase in all departments. While the Disney princess shocks concerned watchgroups and parents with her saucy stage shows, she`s also planning her big-screen transition from peppy teenage star to "actress." The Hollywood Reporter has it that Ms. Cyrus has nabbed her first thriller, an adaptation of the apparently popular young adult novel WAKE, which sounds sort of like NANCY DREW meets NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. I’ve certainly never heard of it, but I stopped being the target audience for that kind of book over ten years ago. (Sad face.)

Wake is the first of three novels written by McMann about a 17-year-old girl named Janie with the unwanted ability to become sucked into people’s dreams. Not surprisingly, she sees things she would rather not see. But when she gets pulled into a terrible nightmare, Janie dangerously goes from mere witness to participant.
