Fans of the Paranormal Activity franchise will soon be able to possess their own copy of the third film in the series as Paranormal Activity 3 becomes available on Blu-ray and DVD beginning January 24th. In honor of this monumental event, the creator of the series, and several actors from the franchise assembled at Hollywood’s legendary Roosevelt Hotel recently (on Friday, January 13th in fact) to discuss the success of the series and drop a few hints about the unenviable Paranormal Activity 4.
Along with several other members of the press, IAR attended the “Tea with Toby,” which is of course named after the demonic entity featured in the films. Tea, coffee, cheese and dessert were served while we all sat down at a table that had seating cards with our individual names printed on them. A special spot at the table was reserved for our host – Toby, but he never made his presence known.
On hand was series creator Oren Peli, as well as actors Katie Featherston, Micha Sloat, and Chris Smith. Also in attendance were Chloe Csengery and Jessica Tyler Brown, the young actresses that play Katie and Kristi, respectively, as children in the most recent film.
Back in July, when the sequel was still being referred to as G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes, erstwhile Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki was cast as Lady Jaye, the female lead in what's now called G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. At the time, Paramount was reportedly trawling for an appropriately charismatic, recognizable star to portray the first-ever G.I. Joe and though the studio was said to be looking at several potential actors, Bruce Willis was right at the top of their wishlist. It would appear that wishes do sometimes come true, as the Die Hard and Moonlighting star is now negotiating to play Joe Colton in the revamped sequel.
If you're one of the unlucky few who missed director David O. Russell's outstanding, Best Picture-nominated The Fighter in theaters, you can remedy that grievous mistake right now, as the film is available on Blu-Ray and DVD. Mark Wahlberg, who also produced, stars as real life Lowell, Massachusetts pugilist Micky Ward, with Oscar nominee Amy Adams as his non-nonsense girlfriend Charlene. Christian Bale and Melissa Leo both took home Academy Awards for their supporting performances as Micky's crack-addicted older brother and controlling mother, respectively.
Deadline is reporting that Paramount will release the next Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator on May 11th, 2012. While the actor will again work Borat and Bruno director Larry Charles – a man who sports a formidable beard, by the way – this film will not be in the same style as those schocking sort of-docu-comedies.
Last week, IAR brought you the news that Fox Searchlight would make 127 Hours, Black Swan, and Conviction available to members of the Screen Actors Guild via iTunes, rather than using the traditional practice of sending out thousand of DVD screeners. Today, we’re seeing the spread of this innovative idea. Paramount Pictures and Relativity Media announced that as of today, The Fighter would be available to SAG cardholders, and Focus Features did the same for The Kids Are All Right.
Fans of Zoolander can rejoice! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Viacom’s quarterly earnings report several films listed as planned release after September 2011. Among them, Zoolander 2, and a sequal to GI Joe.
Also included on the list is the Platinum Dunes version of TMNT, and the new Jack Ryan film. It looks as though Paramount and Viacom are hoping for some continued interest in fan favorites.
It looks like Paranormal Activity 2 might do very well for Paramount Pictures. The film earned a $6.3 million from its midnight screenings alone making it the highest midnight grosser for an R-rated film of all time. It surpassed Watchman’s $4.6 million and will likely have a strong opening weekend due to mostly positive word of mouth.
Last year, Paranormal Activity also did strong numbers that brought it up to $107 million domestic and $193 worldwide with a incredibly low budget of $15,000. While PA2 had a little more money to spend, it will most likely make it all up this weekend.
That bump in the night is not going away too soon.
A number of fine folks from various horror websites (including Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central, UGO and Film School Rejects) have uncovered more creepy goings on with that mysterious baby in the highly anticipated Paranormal Activity 2. You can give it them a glimpse below, including the one we recently reported on.
Only yesterday we offered up some spooky fun when you visit the Paranormal Activity 2 official website. Now how about a chance to see the film FIRST!
That’s right, if you DEMAND IT, you may be one of the very first to see the film at a free screening on October 20th at 11:59 pm. The film opens nationwide on October 23, so that’s just early enough to brag to all your friends, or better yet, have them demand it too.
Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will write the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company, reports the Heat Vision Blog. The film will evidently be live-action.
