Here's something you don't see every day: a high-profile franchise summer sequel just a month out from release getting delayed by a whopping nine months.  Yet that's exactly what is happening to G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  The sequel/sorta-kinda reboot to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was set for nationwide release on June 29th, but has been suddenly pushed back to a new release date, on March 29, 2013.

Paramount has taken the liberty of issuing three previously-unseen images from G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  While the sequel's predecessor, 2009's goofy action-romp G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was pretty successful commercially and found some fans for its unapologetic and agreeable stupidity, these new pictures highlight two crucial things Retaliation has that its forebear didn't.  First and most importantly, there's Adrianne Palicki.  Second, there's Dwayne Johnson. 

Paramount Pictures has revealed a brand new official image from the upcoming sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  It doesn't feature Dwayne Johnson flexing, Bruce Willis smirking, or even Adrianne Palicki being amazing.  Instead, it has the perpetually masked Snake Eyes striking a pose.  Though the character never speaks, his body language has him channeling his inner Harry Callahan, and you can almost here him saying, "You've got to ask yourself one question, 'Do I feel lucky?'  Well, do you, punk?"

The Super Bowl TV spot for the sequel/sorta reboot G.I. Joe: Retaliation has erstwhile The Rock Dwayne Johnson quoting no less a source of earthly wisdom than Jay-Z.  A new trailer has Johnson as Roadblock once again laying down the rhetorical law, this time explaining to  cohort, "Here's how it works: G.I. Joes, we're a fist.  How do we strike?  Together."

If yesterday was the day of the commercials for commercials – with both John Carter and The Avengers dropping tiny ten-second teases of their respective Super Bowl commercials – then today is the day of straight-up Super Bowl commercials.  Earlier, The Dictator debuted its full Super Bowl spot, and now Paramount has taken the liberty of unveiling its thirty-second commercial for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra that will attempt to cleanse the taste of that movie from the audience's collective palette.

Back in July, when the sequel was still being referred to as G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes, erstwhile Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki was cast as Lady Jaye, the female lead in what's now called G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation.  At the time, Paramount was reportedly trawling for an appropriately charismatic, recognizable star to portray the first-ever G.I. Joe and though the studio was said to be looking at several potential actors, Bruce Willis was right at the top of their wishlist.  It would appear that wishes do sometimes come true, as the Die Hard and Moonlighting star is now negotiating to play Joe Colton in the revamped sequel.

The retooled sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is getting a new release date, according to Deadline.  Paramount Pictures long intended a June 29, 2012 release date for the sequel to 2009's Star Trek, but the studio patiently waited for director JJ Abrams to return after completing Super 8.  This patience means that the June release date is impossible to meet, given that Abrams still hasn't officially signed on and writers Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci have completed a 70 page-outline. 

Apparently, Abrams is back from vacation and working on the screenplay with his writers, but with Star Trek 2 not due until late 2012 or 2013, Paramount has scheduled its retooled G.I. Joe sequel to fill their tentpole vacancy on June 29 next year.

In 2009 director Ruben Fleisher made his feature film debut with the monster-sized hit Zombieland, which combined classic comedic beats with the zombie genre. The movie starred Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Woody Harrelson (Friends with Benefits), Emma Stone (Easy A), Abigail Breslin (Rango), and an unforgettable cameo from comedy legend Bill Murray (Ghostbusters). In just a few weeks fans will have a chance to witness Fleisher’s follow-up film 30 Minutes or Less, which once again stars Eisenberg, along with Aziz Ansari (Parks and Recreation), and Danny McBride (Your Highness).

Zombieland fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel to the film practically since it was released and while there has been a lot of talk about the project, there has been no real movement on it. The four lead actors, as well as the director are all signed on for a sequel but the film’s writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, have yet to begin work on the script. Many thought that Zombieland 2 would be Fleisher’s next film after completing 30 Minutes, but with much of his original cast tied up on other projects, the director has instead opted to helm Gangster Squad with Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine), Sean Penn (Milk), and Josh Brolin (Jonah Hex) next.

So the question still remains: When will Zombieland 2 begin production? Today I had the pleasure of speaking with director Ruben Fleisher on the phone while he was in New York promoting 30 Minutes or Less, which opens in theaters August 12^th. While we were chatting about his new film, I took the opportunity to ask Fleisher what exactly is the current status of Zombieland 2 and unfortunately for fans of his first film, he did not seem optimistic that the sequel would be happening anytime soon.

If you're ever casting a major motion picture and you need a reliable badass to bring some gravity to the proceedings, you'd do well to snag Ray Stevenson.  The Irish-born actor played Titus Pullo on HBO's Rome, smashed skulls in the thoroughly ridiculous Punisher: War Zone, and appeared as bad guys in The Book of Eli and The Other Guys.  More recently, he showed up as Volstagg in this summer's Thor.  Apparently, director Jon M. Chu has no need for advice on Stevenson, since he cast the intimidating Mr Stevenson as a villain in next summer's sequel G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes. 

With a dry cool wit, charisma to spare, and an appearance that is straight from the idealized pages of a comic book, it's no wonder that Ryan Reynolds is so associated with superheroic films.  In the upcoming Green Lantern, Ryan Reynolds will play the lead in a full-on superhero adventure for the first time, but he previously played supporting roles in Blade Trinity and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  In that X-Men prequel, he appeared as the irreverent mercenary Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, and a feature for the character has long been a passion project for Reynolds.  At a press conference for Green Lantern, the actor provided an update on Deadpool's development and talked about his history with comic books.
