The red band trailer for The Kings of Summer isn't one of those that trailers that use the red band to showcase breasts, naughtiness, or extreme violence.

Instead, the slack afforded by this type of salesmanship allows a little bit of bad language and a proudly smartassed sensibility to create an actual sense of tone. And that tone is exactly right, existing somewhere between the freedom of idealized summers and the crassness unique to teenage boys.  It's wonderful, and around here we have our fingers crossed that The Kings of Summer fulfills all the promise of this trailer.

A week out from the May 23rd release of the third and final entry in this comedy franchise, a new red band trailer serves to remind audiences of the distinction implied by that title.
