Sony Pictures has debuted two official teaser posters for Men in Black 3, both featuring the MiB Cubed logo repeated like crazy to form the familiar faces of Agents J and K, played once again by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. Actually, that's not entirely accurate, since Jones won't be the only actor starring as the unflappable agent; Josh Brolin will play a younger version of the character for roughly half of the film, as the story finds Smith's Agent J traveling back in time to the 1960's and teaming up with a more youthful variation on his longtime partner.
Production on Men in Black 3 was divided between the past and present portions of the story, with a hiatus between the two planned from the start. Dissatisfaction with the still-unfinished script caused that hiatus to get a whole lot longer, though, with creative differences over extensive rewrites bringing the sequel much unwanted attention. David Koepp was the last writer who contributed to the screenplay, following Jeff Nathanson and Etan Cohen.
The blockbuster movie game has changed quite a bit since Men in Black II arrived in theaters almost a decade ago, and has changed even more since the original impressed as a novel sci-fi action comedy way, way back in 1997. Of course, the current novelty is 3D, so Men in Black III, which sees the return of Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and director Barry Sonnenfeld, was filmed in three dimensions. Studios also like to roll out their tentpole releases in the jumbo-sized IMAX format, so it's no surprise that this particular franchise will be screening in IMAX 3D. In a press release from the Foregone Conclusions department at Sony Pictures, the plan was made official today.
In Men in Black III, Will Smith's Agent J does some time-traveling, heading back to 1960's, when the extraterrestrial-policing organization was formed. Previous photos from the set have shown the period setting and Josh Brolin in costume as the younger version of Agent K, played in contemporary scenes once again by Tommy Lee Jones. Now, new images snapped of filming in Coney Island provide our first look at the film's villain, Boris, an interstellar biker with an ax to grind, brought to life by 1/2 of Flight of the Conchords, Jemaine Clement.
Now that Men in Black III is once again filming in New York after an interruption in the already-unconventional schedule due to lingering script problems, we've seen a few set photos recently. These have included the first look at Josh Brolin, who is playing a younger version of Agent K in scenes involving Will Smith's Agent J traveling back in time to the 1960's. Tommy Lee Jones will again play K in contemporary scenes, but some new set photos from The Brooklyn Paper show some more of Smith, Brolin, and the 60s setting. Take a peek right here.
Men in Black III is now shooting one again, after a longer-than-expected production interruption. The break in shooting was part of Sony's plan, with filming divided between contemporary scenes, and those in which Will Smith's character Agent J travels back in time to the formation of the secretive agency. Persistent script problems, however, caused quite a delay before everything got rolling again. In the past, the younger version of Tommy Lee Jones' character, Agent K, will be played by Josh Brolin. New photos of the shoot made their way online at Xposurephotos (via The Daily Mail), and they give us our first look at Brolin in costume as Agent K.
