In a month, awards season will be no more than a memory.  A memory of ecstatic accolades, tuxedo-sporting actors, and actresses clad in dresses so beautiful they'll melt your face off while inspiring impoverished people the world over to weep diamond tears.  Right now, though, we are very much in the middle of awards season.  The latest news comes from the Screen Actors Guild, which has just handed out its annual awards.

I’ve got a feeling that 2011 is going to be a huge year for Ernest Borgnine.  The 94 year-old Wild Bunch actor and all-around cool cat received a Life Achievement Award at the 17^th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.  The awards were handed out Sunday night, and in the film category, it was pretty much exactly the same winners as the acting categories at the Golden Globes.  Colin Firth and Natalie Portman won for The King’s Speech and Black Swan, respectively, while both Christian Bale and Melissa Leo won the supporting categories for their work in The Fighter.  Check out the full list of winners, including Betty White, for her role on Hot in Cleveland.

While I’ve never gotten one, every awards season, I am surprised by how many free awards DVD screeners some of my friends receive. These screeners, if you’re unfamiliar with the practice, are sent out by studios to ensure that everybody who votes for various awards have actually seen each studio’s awards contenders.
