If you're a film fan in Los Angeles, then you no doubt have an unapologetic love of the New Beverly, a wonderful revival theater that excels in scheduling films obscure, beloved, bygone, and everywhere in between.  If you're a film fan virtually anywhere on the planet Earth, then you no doubt have an unapologetic love of Edgar Wright, the director and (in all cases but one) co-writer of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Spaced.  Not just a filmmaker of unique, once-in-a-generation gifts, Wright is also a sentient film encyclopedia who has brought his love of film to the New Bev with two previous scheduling seasons, is hosting yet another, and for the Wright Stuff III, he's exploiting gaps in his knowledge.

The Wright Stuff III, starting this Friday, is a week of movies Edgar Wright has never seen, all shown in the spirit, "that you can’t be late to a party if the party never stops."  The eclectic collection of films include a few of my favorites (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg!), but even if you're not familiar with them all, you'll be treated to appearances by not just Wright himself, but the likes of Peter Bogdanovich, Rian Johnson, James Gunn, Joe Carnahan, John Landis, Elvis Mitchell, and Patton Oswalt.

In a bold move, Sony's Screen Gems has taken their British action/sci-fi acquisition from SXSW, the Edgar Wright produced Attack the Block, and announced that they'll be putting it in theaters in limited release the same day rival unorthodox alien vs. human film, Cowboys and Aliens will be landing on screens around the country. In addition to the two alien invasion films planned for release on the Friday after Comic-Con, The Smurfs CG/live action film will also hit theaters on July 29th.

Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube have all been announced as leads in Sony's upcoming action-comedy 21 Jump Street, co-written by Hill.  The film is based on the 1987 television series starring Johnny Depp and Richard Greico as narcotics cops going undercover as high school students, so eventually, we had to hear about casting for actors who actually look high school-aged.  Deadline has the exclusive news that actress Brie Larson has landed the coveted lead role of Molly in the high profile picture.

There may be a few surprises this year when it comes to eligible films for the WGA Awards. You won’t be seeing such critically acclaimed films as Winter’s Bone, The King’s Speech, Toy Story 3, Never Let Me Go or How to Train Your Dragon because they are ineligible for nomination.

What? How can some of the best films of the year not be nominated for their beautifully written scripts? Well, it so happens that the guild’s rules restrict nominations to productions that aren’t produced by WGA members or under WGA guidelines. Other films that fail to fall into those categories include Biutiful, The Ghost Writer, Nowhere Boy, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Way Back and Zack Snyder’s animated adventure, Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is heading to Blu-ray & DVD on November 9. In celebration of the release, the American Cinematheque hosted a Screening and Q&A at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood last night.

The Q&A featured the film’s director Edgar Wright, Scott Pilgrim himself, Michael Cera and the creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. It also featured cast members Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Satya Bhabha and Johnny Simmons.

Moderated by filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, this exciting discussion included casting Thomas Jane and Clifton Collins Jr. in cameo roles. They delved into the idea of doing multiple films. And Cera talks about watching the film for the first time.

iamROGUE.com takes a look at the discussion with the following clips. Be sure to check out Scott Pilgrim sv. The World next new release Tuesday!

While Scott Pilgrim vs. the World didn’t quite light up the box office as expected, it achieved something very… well, Scott Pilgrimesque.

According to The Wrap, The film beat out Inception as the number one film in America when it comes to Top Trending topics on Twitter, even though it only hit number 5 in the box office charts.

It was a battle of the sexes - and generations - at the box office this weekend, as three high-profile releases all vied for the attention of moviegoers. The biggest face-off was between the testosterone-fet The Expendables and the Julia Roberts-starrer Eat Pray Love, while the younger-skewing Scott Pilgrim vs. The World came in hoping to be the dark horse. Three different kinds of films each aimed at different quadrants - but only one could be the winner: one of the more interesting battles of the summer, to be sure.
