Earlier this month, 20th Century Fox revealed that the comedy formerly titled Neighborhood Watch would henceforth be known as The Watch. At the same time, the studio released the first red band trailer, which gave the best taste of just how delightfully juvenile and deliciously foul-mouthed the central group of Richard Ayoade, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill would be in the film.
Synopsis: An outrageous comedy in which four everyday suburban guys come together to form a neighborhood watch group, but only as an excuse to escape their humdrum lives one night a week. But when they accidentally discover that their town has become overrun with aliens posing as ordinary suburbanites, they have no choice but to save their neighborhood — and the world — from total extermination.
The summer comedy formerly known as Neighborhood Watch not only has a new title today, but 20th Century Fox has also released a red-band trailer that provides the best indication of just what The Watch is all about.
The film's plot – a quartet of ineffectual suburban dads facing an alien invasion – and the presence of Ben Stiller may have suggested that the film would be a four-quadrant, family-friendly affair, but this trailer is chock full of bad language and dirty talk from the likes of Stiller, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayoade, and Vince Vaughn.
The work week is very nearly over, and while we'd love to simply gift everyone out there with a Get Out of Work Early Card, that's just not feasible. As a consolation prize, however, we'd like to offer three new one-sheets for three very different summer movies. How different? Well, the one features the sixteenth U.S. President wielding an ax that he uses to kill vampires, another has neighborhood dads facing aliens, and the last lines up the characters who hang out at a 1980s rock club on Sunset Boulevard.
This summer's ensemble comedy Neighborhood Watch is about a group of overzealous upper-middle class suburban dads who form the eponymous neighborhood patrol organization, only to end up confronting an alien invasion force. 20th Century Fox has released both a teaser trailer and poster for the film. The latter gives a good idea of the whole alien-invasion part of the story, while the former provides no indication of extraterrestrial action. Instead, it introduces the four leads, played by Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Richard Ayoade, and Jonah Hill, as they cruise the neighborhood, hitting switches and blasting Dr. Dre from a shared minivan.
Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve. For two consecutive years, director Garry Marshall and screenwriter Katherine Fugate served up holiday-themed ensembles unreasonably packed with bankable movie stars and romantic comedy cliches. Had New Year's Eve been a bigger hit, you can only imagine that we have spent the next several years besieged by these novelty offerings until the holidays were finally exhausted. That could still happen, actually. But even if it does, we'll always have MLK Day, a parody trailer for a fictitious romantic comedy that expertly eviscerates the cloying, manipulative style of those films.
The Sundance Film Festival kicks off tomorrow, January 19th in Park City, Utah, and one of the many, many films set to screen at the high altitude festival include Play the Favorite, a comedy-drama based on the memoir by Beth Raymer. In anticipation of the Sundance debut, the very first clip from the film has made its way online, and it features Rebecca Hall and Bruce Willis as the two leads driving through Las Vegas and singing a tone-deaf rendition of "The Air that I Breathe" by The Hollies.
Ninety-nine percent of all velociraptor phobias can be traced directly to Jurassic Park, the 1993 Steven Spielberg blockbuster that proved to be a landmark in the development of believable CG-character animation and a cultural sensation. The film was the first to be released in surround sound, and now, it's on the way to Blu-ray with a 7.1 surround mix to properly capture the gut-churning thump of a T-Rex's feet, as well as the clicking of that horrific raptor claw. Along with sequels The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, Michael Crichton's doomed amusement park will be available in high definition on October 25th, with a bevy of special features including an extensive behind-the-scenes documentary.
