Movie Review: 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps'

Thursday, 23 September 2010 09:55

Wall Street was a stylish and addictive look at the power of greed and all things that are green (well, really just money). Oliver Stone created a mythos with Michael Douglas’ Gordon Gekko. He is a commanding and dangerous corporate raider who mentors a young Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) leading him into a corrupt and morally questionable world of business and high stakes.

Yet money never sleeps right?

With Oliver Stone’s latest, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, he revisits familiar territory. Yet this time around, things have changed. Cell phones have gotten smaller and there are far more enemies that you need to watch out for. At least this is the case for Jake Moore (Shia LaBeouf). He is smart, young stock trader and has a beautiful fiancé named Winnie Gekko (Carey Mulligan). He’s got it all, including a very lucrative career working for Louis Zabel (Frank Langella).

Rogue of the Week: Michael Douglas

Wednesday, 01 September 2010 14:09

When Michael Douglas took on Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone’s hit Wall Street, he commanded the screen. The role won him an Oscar and started him on a string of hit features. Before that, he made every single married man think twice about having an affair in Fatal Attraction. Lest we forget his own exciting action hero contribution alongside Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone.
