Paranoia, a thriller with a unique, all-star cast, has found an American distributor and a release date. Relativity Media has acquired U.S. rights to the film based on the novel by Joseph Finder, and today the studio announced that Paranoia will hit theaters Stateside on September 27, 2013.
Liam Hemsworth, an Australian up-and-comer who last appeared as Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games, leads the cast as a regular guy who finds himself blackmailed into a costly game of corporate and technological espionage with unimaginably high stakes. Also starring in Paranoia are Academy Award nominees Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford, along with Lucas Till, who played Havoc in last summer's X-Men: First Class.
Are you ready to rock?
Opening in theaters on June 15th is the big screen adaptation of the smash hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages, which was directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray). The film truly features an all-star cast that includes Julianne Hough (Footloose), Diego Boneta (Mean Girls 2), Russell Brand (Arthur), Alec Baldwin (TV's 30 Rock), Bryan Cranston (Drive), Paul Giamatti (Sideways), Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Will Forte (MacGruber), Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago), singer Mary J. Blige, and international superstar Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol).
Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie (Hough) and city boy Drew (Boneta), who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Much like the musical, the film features rock 'n' roll hits of the era from such legendary artists as Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, and White Snake.
Life of Pi, an adaptation of the hugely acclaimed bestseller by Yann Martel, has been in the works under several different directors since the novel was published over a decade, but the film is actually set to hit theaters at the end of this year. As such, we now have our first look at a still from the film. As you'd expect, it has the protagonist, Pi, a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker, and a lifeboat.
This Tuesday, April 3rd We Bought a Zoo will be available on BluRay/DVD. Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous)
directs a story based on a memoir by British journalist, Benjamin Mee, and
stars Matt Damon (Contagion), Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2) and Thomas Haden
Church (Sideways). The movie focuses on a single dad, Benjamin Mee (portrayed
by Damon), struggling to raise his two children after the loss of his wife.
Hoping that a fresh start will restore their family spirit, Mee quits his job
and buys an old rural house, but there’s a catch: the house is part of a zoo
named the Rosemoor Animal Park, where dozens of animals reside under the care
of head zookeeper Kelly Foster (Johansson) and her dedicated team. With no
experience and a very tight budget, Mee sets out with the support of his family
and his devoted staff to reopen the zoo.
Featuring an incredible
musical score composed by Jónsi of the band Sigur Rós, the We Bought a Zoo Blu-ray is loaded with over 2½ hours of special features including a 28-minute
featurette called “The Real Mee” about the real life Benjamin Mee, giving some
background on his life and the zoo.
The movie does an excellent job portraying Benjamin Mee’s experiences but his actual story is a bit more harrowing than the movie let’s on. I recently had a chance to speak with Benjamin Mee about We Bought a Zoo. He discusses how hard it really was to buy a zoo, what it was like to have Matt Damon play him on-screen, Do-It-Yourself skills, his animal wish list, close brushes with death, and about how some parts of his life were so dismal that they didn’t make it into the film.
Last week, a regrettably brief but wonderfully crazy international trailer introduced us to the first footage from Cosmopolis, the adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel. That trailer was full of nuttiness that director David Cronenberg is perfectly equipped to bring to the screen, from abrupt splattery violence to no small amount of sexiness. A set of four new stills from Cosmopolis don't even hint at the wackiness of that trailer, but they're worth a look nonetheless.
Opening in theaters on March 30th is the hilarious and family friendly re-telling of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale Snow White entitled Mirror Mirror, which was helmed by visionary director Tarsem Singh (Immortals). The film stars actress Lily Collins (Priest) as Snow White, actor Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Prince Andrew Alcott, and Academy Award winning actress Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich) as Queen Clementianna, as well as a supporting cast that includes Nathan Lane (The Producers), Mare Winningham (Turner & Hooch), Michael Lerner (Barton Fink), and Sean Bean (HBO’s Game of Thrones). Mirror Mirror is rated PG and promises to be a comedic fantasy adventure for the whole family that shows us the iconic fairy tale in a whole new way.
IAR recently had the pleasure of attending the Mirror Mirror press conference, along with several outlets, to hear what the actors and director had to say about the new film. On hand was director Tarsem Singh, actress Lily Collins, and of course … Oscar winner and Hollywood icon Julia Roberts.
First time feature film director Rupert Sanders brought his highly anticipated re-imagining of the Classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale Snow White to WonderCon 2012 in Anaheim, California this year and the film received an enthusiastic response from fans and critics alike. Snow White and the Huntsman, which opens in theaters on June 1st retells the iconic tale in what has been described as “Lord of the Rings-style” starring actress Kristen “Don’t call me Bella” Stewart (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1) in the title role.
The film’s impressive
cast also includes Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron (Young Adult) as the
Queen, Chis Hemsworth (Thor) as the Huntsman, and actors Ian McShane (Pirates
of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Johnny Harris (Atonement), Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit), Toby Jones (The Hunger Games), Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), Ray
Winstone (Edge of Darkness), and Nick Frost (Attack the Block) as the Dwarves,
which there are now eight of.
After the Snow White and the Huntsman presentation and panel, which featured some of the first footage to be seen from the film, as well as stars Kristen Stewart, and Charlize Theron, director Rupert Sanders had a chance to speak with IAR and several other members of the press about the upcoming film, the classic story it is based on, the cast, magic, and the possibility of a sequel.
Since MGM found a director for the Carrie remake earlier this year, the natural question regarding the film-to-be is simply who will play the title character? After all, Sissy Spacek was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as a telekinetic teenager in Brian De Palma's 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's first novel. The question of just who will be covered in pig's blood at prom is close to being answered, it seems, as the candidates to play Carrie are down to two actresses: Chloe Grace Moretz and Haley Bennett.
Stephenie Meyer's supernatural novel series resulted in the massively successful Twilight Saga film franchise, so it was inevitable that Meyer's foray into science-fiction would get its own feature film. With the vampire-centric series having made Meyer a bankable brand, The Host will be the sole new cinematic representation of her work when Breaking Dawn - Part 2 closes out the franchise this fall. The Host is set to hit theaters in just over a year, but Open Road Films have rolled out the very first teaser trailer.
Opening in theaters on March 23rd is the highly anticipated new film The Hunger Games, which is based on the extremely popular novel of the same name by author Suzanne Collins. The film was directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit), and stars Academy Award-nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) as the story's hero Katniss Everdeen, as well as Josh Hutcherson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), Woody Harrelson (Rampart), Elizabeth Banks (Man on a Ledge), Lenny Kravitz (Precious), Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones), Toby Jones (My Week With Marilyn), Wes Bentley (There Be Dragons), and Donald Sutherland (Klute).
IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with actor Wes Bentley to discuss his role as Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games. The actor discussed the new film, his pivotal role, getting the part, his character's unique facial hair, the inspiration he gained for his role from watching reality television, director Gary Ross' vision for the film, and the brilliant world that author Suzanne Collins has created.
