Huzzah for original sci-fi!

Warner Bros. announced today that Andy and Lana Wachowski started principal photography on Jupiter Ascending, starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum, two weeks ago at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom.

Perhaps more importantly, the studio also revealed an official synopsis of the mysterious project's intergalactic story.

Sony Pictures has officially announced the start of production on next year's sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

In the process, the studio has provided the first vague but still functional story synopsis, confirmed an incoming actor, revealed another principal castmember about whom we had no idea, and shared some info-nuggets on principal photography.

Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner have come so far in the four movies since they first lived life a quarter mile at a time in 2000's The Fast and the Furious.  And now we have a pretty good idea of just what their next adventure will entail, as Universal Pictures has released the first official synopsis for the sixth installment, hitting theaters this summer.

Paramount Pictures has issued the official synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness. 

Like all such synopses, it's deliberately vague to the point of near-meaninglessness, but since J.J. Abrams has kept such a tight lid on this sequel, the synopsis now represents our best idea of the movie's story.

The first trailer for Iron Man 3 is set to debut on Tuesday, October 23rd, but in order to ensure that the trailer is a proper event, Marvel Studios and Disney have unveiled an eighteen second sneak preview at the trailer, which is itself a preview.

Now that The Avengers has settled into the number three all-time biggest movie slot and is comfortably out on all those home entertainment platforms, Marvel Studios is getting ready to properly pimp its biggest solo franchise.  It's a small step, but a step nonetheless: Marvel and Disney have revealed the official story synopsis for Iron Man 3.

Kick-Ass 2 is in the midst of production for a summer 2013 release date.  We've seen a whole lot of thoroughly unofficial photos from the set showing off old and new Kick-Ass characters in costume, but Universal Pictures has opted now to release an official little something into the online wilds.  It's not a picture, trailer, or anything like that, but the new official synopsis for Kick-Ass 2 clears up a few little things.

Thor: The Dark World, the second entry in Marvel Studios' second phase of cinematic universe-building, is currently filming in and around London, England.  With The Avengers having arrived on Blu-ray and DVD, Marvel and Disney's sights are set resolutely on the future, and in order to draw our eyes more raptly towards that horizon, they've released an official synopsis for the next adventure of Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder.

Comic-Con 2012 is in full swing down, and some new information from next year's RoboCop remake has emerged from the biggest annual pilgrimage of nerds anywhere on the planet.  Specifically, a new, relatively specific synopsis of the remake's story has landed online.  Much of it covers the familiar story of good cop turned robotic supercop/shell of a man/corporate product Alex Murphy.  Along with this week's Omnicorp viral video, though, it suggests that a big update in Jose Padhila's new version is a fixation on drone warfare.

For months, the official synopsis for The Dark Knight Rises has basically been a cast listing, because Warner Bros. knows that you need to know next to nothing about the sequel in order to get your ass in the seat.  You're going to see Christoper Nolan's last Batman movie because it's Christopher Nolan's last Batman movie and it's the sequel to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.  Also: Anne Hathaway in a catsuit.
