Warner Bros. is bringing Bugs Bunny to the big screen in a CG/live-action movie to be scripted by David Berenbaum, reports Deadline.com. No director or producer is yet attached.
This had to happen eventually. Throughout all the Alvin and the Chipmunks and Smurfs announcements, I was waiting patiently (without excitement, mind) for the day they'd finally trot out the old stable of Looney Tunes characters for one of these things. Of course, Bugs has already graced the live-action world, in Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action, but this will be his first time as a computer-generated character.
Wow, must be the day of dream sci-fi team-ups (depending on your perspective). First we had Damon Lindelof joining Ridley Scott on board the Alien prequel, and now it seems as though James Cameron is coming to Guillermo del Toro's aid in getting one of the latter's most beloved horror novels onto the big screen.
Guillermo del Toro's future has been a mystery ever since he left The Hobbit. He's one of those directors who attaches himself to something every other week - a Frankenstein project, a Van Helsing movie, another Hellboy - but we're never sure what he really intends to direct next.
Well, at Comic-Con's Hall H stage, del Toro surprised a crowd that had just witnessed the Tron: Legacy panel by announcing his next film. And it's isn't one we've heard in conjunction with him before today: The Haunted Mansion. Yes, based on the famous Disney ride, which already made for a rather unfortunate film version in 2003 starring Eddie Murphy. This is a complete reboot though - del Toro evidently told the crowd Eddie Murphy's phone calls will not be returned. (Cue huge applause and gales of laughter)
