Rogue of the Week: Helen Mirren

I remember the first time that I saw Excalibur. It was a shocking experience being I was very young and impressionable. This tale of King Arthur, bloodshed and sex was a shock to the system that permeated inside my head for years to come.

One thing that stood out was the wild and wicked performance of a young Helen Mirren. She was, and still is a ferociously original actress unafraid of controversy. Her work in The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover was bloody brilliant, as was nearly all of what came before and after.

Helen has the uncanny ability to play out the venom of a certain role, yet the charm and class for “Prime Suspect”. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if this talented actress couldn’t play any damn character she set her mind to. Maybe she already has.

This weekend, Helen packs a machine gun and gives another fantastic performance in Red. Soon after that, she appears in Julie Taymor’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. She is playing Prospera!

Helen Mirren is deadly beautiful and utterly charming. She can play shoot ‘em up alongside Bruce Willis and she can revel in seduction and cannibalism with ‘Cook’. There is nobody quite like her.

May I present to you our Rogue of the Week... Ms. Helen Mirren.
