Rogue of the Week: Christian Bale

Audiences first took notice of Christian Bale in Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun. He was young, yet gifted enough to carry this moving film. And that was all the way back in 1987.

Since then, he has taken on challenge after challenge and even battled some bad press along the way. None of it really matters when you’ve got talent like Bale. From playing a lovelorn fan in Velvet Goldmine to the one and only Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, he has proven to be one of the best actors of the past few generations.

There is intensity to him, a fierce and startling power that he brings to nearly every role he takes on. Yet he is not simply playing a character, there is no doubt that he is digging deep within the very soul of whoever is portraying.

It is perhaps Psycho that brought him to another level, but it didn’t end there. After a series of interesting films including Equilibrium and The Machinist, he went on to take another chance… ‘Who are you?’ asks a perpetrator? With a deep growl he tells them, ‘I’m Batman’ and a legendary super hero franchise is re-born.

With Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, his career seems to be headed in the right direction. The franchise is a favorite for film critics, fanboys and a few of those that are in-between.

Bale is currently getting a stack of award nominations and heaps of praise for his fantastic work in The Fighter. Whether he likes it or not he may be one of the biggest stars in the world.  There is nobody like Christian Bale in Hollywood. He is a gifted, fierce, fascinating and brilliant performer. I look forward to whatever he has coming up next.
