Wow, what a week of odd celebrity news! And here we are deciding who should be Rogue of the Week. The choices were a little disappointing to say the least, unless of course you want some rage fueled celebrity threatening his girlfriend or maybe a once hot starlet on her way to jail. Sure there are a few nice ones, but it wasn’t until Christopher Nolan came to mind.
Simply put, many would be satisfied that he is the man that made The Dark Knight. Is that enough? But I’d have to say no… at least not in 2010.
Yet, after TDK, the only thing anybody asks Mr. Nolan had to do with a caped crusader and what to do about that Joker fellow. Nobody would’ve blamed him if he stuck to what works and made another Batman film. Who would be the bad guy? Would you ever replace Heath Ledger? All these questions and more, yet Christopher didn’t take the easy road. He didn’t remake another film, he didn’t do another sequel. He made Inception.
Okay, so the idea of a large budget, Leonardo DiCaprio film doesn’t seem altogether Rogue. But when most studios are taking the easy route and playing it safe, it feels at least a little ballsy. Nolan took a major star and surrounded him with some very strong actors and made an original film. This might’ve been a mistake. But it’s Christopher Nolan and ‘Inception’ currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also ranks a very healthy 9.6 out of 10 on IMDB.
Nolan takes a chance, makes an original film and it pays off. He didn’t go for the quick sequel and just hope for the best. But most importantly he didn’t even take the 3D route… ‘Well, that’d sure be cool in 3D …’ No it wouldn’t.
