WonderCon 2012: 'Prometheus' Theatrical Trailer

The full theatrical trailer for Prometheus is now online.  Phrased another way: The new Prometheus trailer can now forcibly insert visual marvelousness into your eyeholes.  We've long known that Ridley Scott's return to science-fiction and the universe of his 1979 masterpiece Alien would be a stylistic treat, since it's Scott and all, but this trailer gives us a better idea of the film's actual story.

The story is still plenty mysterious, but this trailer lays out the basic idea that Noomi Rapace and Logan Marshall-Green are scientists who put together that life on Earth may have been started by an intelligent species that conveniently left clues to its point of origin.  The titular spacecraft sets out to that point of origin, and the unfortunate souls aboard discover something indescribably horrible.

Thanks to AMC Theaters for the trailer, which debuted today at WonderCon in Anaheim.

Oh man.  There are a lot of movies to look forward to this summer, many of them based on comic books and superheroes, but Prometheus has the potential to be something really singular and special.  The fact that Scott is returning to sci-fi for the first time since 1982's Blade Runner is worth getting excited about, but the fact that he's making a prequel to Alien that isn't concerned with the usual connect-the-dots business of prequels is truly a "holy shit" proposition.  Not only that, but it's also Scott's first 3D feature.

Damon Lindelof revised the original screenplay by Jon Spaihts.  The cast includes Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Wong, Patrick Wilson, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, Sean Harris, and Rafe Spall.

Prometheus arrives on June 8th.
