In Camel Spiders, the unapologetic B-movie throwback presented by Roger Corman, a band of soldiers and townspeople in Arizona must fight off a seemingly unstoppable species of creature unknowingly brought to the U.S. from Iraq by returning servicemen. The SyFy movie, directed by Jim Wynorski and starring C. Thomas Howell and Brian Krause, is available for purchase and rental on Blu-ray and DVD as of today.
Of course, the camel spiders featured in the film bare little resemblance the real-life critters, which have been the subject of endless rumors since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. Really, Camel spiders aren't the size of bowling balls, can't run thirty miles per hour, aren't poisonous, and technically aren't even spiders (they're solifugae, which are, however, in the Arachnida class).
Still, the sensationalized, scary movie version of camel spiders inspired us at IAR to think about a certain type of scary movie monster. Basically, the little guys. Of course hulking killers like Jason are scary, but what about the characters and beasts who can do just as damage even though they're about two feet tall or even smaller? With Camel Spiders in mind, we're presenting ten examples of diminutive but nonetheless horrifying cinematic creations.
Like clowns, dolls are inherently creepy. Now that MGM is solvent and back in the game, the studio is eager to reboot the Child's Play horror franchise, which starred a hideous, red headed doll possessed by the spirit of a serial killer. Brad Dourif, who voiced Chucky the murderous doll in the first film and its four sequels, will return for the remake. He'll be joined by writer and potential director Don Mancini, who wrote all five films and directed the last installment, Seed of Chucky.
Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel co-star in the upcoming romantic comedy Life as We Know It. The two have terrific chemistry together, and you can read about that in our official review coming later this week.
With that in mind, there is another actor that Ms. Heigl shared some terrific on-screen relations with. No, it wasn’t Seth Rogen in Knocked Up. Don’t get me wrong, that was a terrific movie and both Seth and Katherine were great, but they didn’t have quite the spark that a certain doll of an actor had with her.
We here at iamROGUE.com have been looking forward to Halloween Horror Nights 2010 for awhile now. Every year they bring the park to life with an exciting and atmospheric trip into a living, breathing nightmare.
Tom Holland's Fright Night set the standard for what a great horror film could be. The use of comedy and horror was equally successful as was the beautifully layered script. iamROGUE asked Mr. Holland about the current remake which stars Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Toni Collette and David Tennant, which is a surprisingly strong cast.
Mr. Holland agrees and talks about his thoughts regarding a remake of a film that meant so much to him. Whether or not the remake ultimately works or whether it doesn't, we will always have the classed 1985 film which is arguably one of the greatest vampire movies ever made.

It’s a bit hard to not be impressed by Tom Holland. The director of such classics as Fright Night, Child’s Play and Cloak & Dagger speaks his mind and has a very honest approach to not only directing, but when having a conversation as well.
When iamROGUE approached him about doing a Spotlight, it felt like an exciting choice, as there are very few directors in Hollywood that would speak directly about the business itself. We also talked about what he has been up to, which includes his plans to bring his work directly to his fans by using the internet.
Needless to say, speaking to Mr. Holland is always a pleasure. Keep an eye out for this talented man and the horror that he will bring!
