Opening in theaters on May 9th is the new drama Palo Alto, which is written and directed by first time filmmaker Gia Coppola and based on a series of short stories by Academy Award-nominee James Franco (Homefront). In addition to Franco, the film stars Emma Roberts (We're the Millers), Val Kilmer (Top Gun), Chris Messina (Argo), Nate Wolff (Admission), newcomer Jack Kilmer, and Zoe Levin (The Way Way Back).

IAR's New York Corespondent Justine Browning had the pleasure of sitting down with Gia Coppola and James Franco to talk about their work on Palo Alto. The young director and acclaimed actor discussed their new film, how Coppola's background in photography prepared her to direct her first film, it's dream like quality, and why Franco thinks Coppola "has a way of looking at kids through a prism of the fantastic."

Shy, sensitive April (Roberts) is the class virgin, torn between an illicit flirtation with her soccer coach Mr. B (Franco) and an unrequited crush on sweet stoner Teddy (Jack Kilmer). Emily (Levin), meanwhile, offers sexual favors to every boy to cross her path - including both Teddy and his best friend Fred (Wolff), a live wire without filters or boundaries. As one high school party bleeds into the next - and April and Teddy struggle to admit their mutual affection - Fred's escalating recklessness starts to spiral into chaos.

Palo Alto opens in theaters on May 9th.
