Opening in theaters on May 30th is the new Disney film Maleficent, which is a retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. The movie was directed by production designer and first time feature film director Robert Stromberg (Oz the Great and Powerful), and stars Angelina Jolie (In the Land of Blood and Honey) as the title character. In addition to Jolie, the cast also includes Elle Fanning (Super 8), Sharlto Copley (Elysium), Sam Riley (Control), Brenton Thwaites (Oculus), Lesley Manville (A Christmas Carol), Imelda Staunton (Arthur Christmas), and Juno Temple (Afternoon Delight).
IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Sam Riley to talk exclusively about his work on Maleficent. The young actor discussed his new film, his thoughts on retelling the classic Sleeping Beauty story, only reading his character's part when initially looks at scripts, participating in his first big budget studio movie, his VFX heavy role, director Robert Stromberg's visual effects background, working with Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie, and why he is a diva on set.
NOTE: Due to technical difficulties Philbrick and Riley had to film their interview a second time.
