Available on Blu-ray beginning September 9th is the 40th anniversary edition of the classic comedy Young Frankenstein. The film was directed by EGOT-winner Mel Brooks (The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs), and co-written by Brooks and lead actor Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Silver Streak). In addition to Wilder, the movie features an incredible cast that also includes Peter Boyle (Taxi Driver), Marty Feldman (Silent Movie), Madeline Kahn (Clue), Teri Garr (Close Encounters of the Third Kind), Academy Award-winner Cloris Leachman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid), and two-time Academy Award-winner Gene Hackman (Unforgiven, The Royal Tenenbaums).
IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick was honored to recently attend the TCL Chinese Theater handprint-footprint ceremony for comedy icon Mel Brooks, which also celebrated the 40th anniversary of Young Frankenstein. Philbrick had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Mel Brooks after the ceremony about his work on Young Frankenstein. The legendary director discussed his iconic film, his surprising love for iamROGUE, co-writing Young Frankenstein with Gene Wilder, being the first director to cast Gene Hackman in a comedy, and having a sixth finger on his lefthand, which turned out to be a fake.
