Opening in New York and Los Angeles theaters on October 10th is the new music drama Whiplash, which is receiving early Oscar buzz. The film was written and directed by Damien Chazelle (Grand Piano), and stars Miles Teller (21 & Over, That Awkward Moment), J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man, Juno), and Paul Reiser (Beverly Hills Cop, Aliens).

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the great J.K. Simmons to talk about his work on Whiplash, which has already made him an Academy Award frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor. The talented veteran actor discussed his new film, why he should have stuck a drumstick in Miles Teller's eye, his initial reaction to first reading the screenplay, what he thought he could bring to the role, his character's controversial style of teaching, respecting his students, and why the film is really a simple love story.
